A letter, 1861 May 26, from D. Appleton and Company concerns the publication of some of his poems in a "cheap pamphlet. A draft of a letter, 1864 May 14, from Bryant to Mrs. E. Marble, dismisses her suggestion that he write a poem inspired by som flowers from the Lookout Mountain battlefield. A draft of a letter, 1864 May 16, to Lydia Maria Child, written on the verso of the above draft, proposes that she write a biograph of Owen Lovejoy. A draft of a letter, 1865 August 2, to Dr. Samuel Henry Dickson, written on the verso of the Appleton letter, concerns the death of Bryant's wife, and the effects on his family.
